Mi d d l ewi ch Heritage Tr ust M iddlewich Heritage Trust have been working through the lockdown to work on our website I ve been working from home connected to two Trustees Mike Walton and Steve Broadfoot via one drive Working online has meant that between the three of us we can share documents images and files and still work relatively as normal the lock down has meant that we have more time to dedicate to our failing website For the past few months we have been working with Middlewich based Bloom Creative Design in rescuing our website which has meant a complete rebuild We have now made the site safe and linked it with our Virtual Museum and the Middlewich Heritage Society We ve created new pages reorganised the presentation of the pages and the flow of information We ve updated all our projects including our current Murgatroyd s Brine Pump project and the Great War Project is currently being finished We are delighted to announce a new addition especially for the community For the last year volunteers have been digitising our archive collections although this has had to stop due to Covid 19 for the moment we have enough material to start the new archives pages It is our aim to ensure that the community can see our collections online whether that is photographs documents or pictures of objects For the first time the public can view items donated to us and build up their knowledge of Middlewich and it s industry from their own home which is especially poignant at the moment Visit our site and see what we ve been up to www middlewich heritage org uk to see the new archives section click on the Virtual Museum tab and this will take you to our archives and artefacts pages There are four sections to choose from currently soon to be joined by Ideal Standard we will be adding new material to this section each month and will continue to digitise once it is safe for volunteers to work with us again Kerry Kirwan Heritage Development Officer

Grand m a s kitch en W e all need a bit of chocolate in our lives during these strange times So here is my quick chocolate chip cookie recipe which I m sure you will love Method Preheat oven to 180 160 fan gas Mark 4 Line a large baking sheet with baking parchment Put the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and mix thoroughly with a fork until light and fluffy Add the vanilla extract and beat the egg into the mixture In a separate bowl add the flour cocoa powder and baking powder mix it well Add the flour mixture into the batter mix a third at a time and mix well finally stir in the chocolate chunks chips Using a tablespoon spoon the mixture onto the baking sheet it should make approximately 9 cookies Leave enough space between each cookie for the mixture to spread It will flatten out as it bakes Bake in the oven for 14 minutes the cookies will be soft when they come out of the oven so leave on the baking tray to cool thoroughly 16 Chocolate Chip Cookies 100g Butter so 150g Muscava ftened do sugar tract 1tsp Vanilla ex 1 Large free ra nge egg 150g Self rais ing flour 40g Cocoa po wder 1 2tsp Baking powder 100g Chocolat e chunks or chips The cookies will be soft on the inside almost like a cake Put the kettle on and enjoy with a nice cuppa

Fitne ss P erformance Nutrition I am often asked what the differences are between the diets I recommend for athlete clients and those simply of people wanting to lose weight and look better The truth is the same foods work for both there are no secret super foods that elite athletes eat that average gym users cannot However there are differences between elite and non elite individuals that I see too often when it comes to nutrition Here is an overview of those differences 1 Consistency the number one difference when it comes to diet Eating consistently well brings results Sticking to a diet can require willpower but when that brings you results that earn you the results you want things become infinitely easier 2 Have a plan after consistency this is the biggest issue I see for results not coming quick enough If you don t plan your diet and take the time you will stray from your diet To really achieve the best results you need to have a plan in the kitchen too 3 Understand nutrition the athlete and nutrition coach will have a good understanding of why they are eating specific foods why their meal timings are set out as they are and what the implications are of straying from the diet An understanding of what foods are needed for performance and fat loss are 32 always beneficial 4 Underestimating the importance of micronutrients often I see young guys using a protein powder creatine and a pre workout formula but completely ignore micronutrients either from their diet or from supplements at the very least a multivitamin should be used There s nothing crazy here These are just behaviours which elite athletes adhere to that set them apart in terms of diet from the average gym user When I was in the military the difference between being standard or being elite wasn t down to super foods it was down to mindset You re never too good to do the basics The difference between being good and being elite is doing the basics with distinction Understand your goal have a plan be consistent So what does it take to be the best Apart from training and skill the importance of nutrition is not to be underestimated Planning is integral to constant progress if you don t have a plan you ll never achieve the greatest results Try and implement the above key differences for 3 months and you will be surprised how much progress you will make If you re stuck with training or nutrition and you need a plan get in touch Phil Rigden ZERO44 PERFORMANCE

His to r y of t h e Driving Test 8 5 years ago the driving test became compulsory for all new drivers Some may argue that the test should have been compulsory long before 1935 after all steam cars had been on the roads since the early 19th century With the first recorded death in Ireland by a steam motor vehicle in 1869 you would like to think there were some precautions in place for road safety Throughout the late 19th century the development of cars progressed and soon petrol was replacing steam General Motors GM an American car manufacturer came to Britain in 1925 Two years early it was recorded there were around 383 525 cars on the roads GM offered a car for every purse and every purpose and by 1930 there were one million cars on the roads in Britain One million cars yet there was no test You would be instructed by the Salesman who would demonstrate how to start the car use of controls and you would be sent on your way There were no age restrictions it wouldn t be unusual to see a child driving their parents around Whilst this may sound quite handy when you want picking up from the shops you have to feel for the 7 000 people a year who were killed in road accidents half of whom were pedestrians Fortunately during 1930 the Road Traffic 36 Act was introduced enforcing age restrictions and a test for disabled drivers A small step to road safety however with the average speed of a vehicle being 30 40mph the lack of experience of the drivers and popularity of the car the roads in Britain were becoming dangerously busy In 1934 testing was finally introduced for all new drivers but this was only voluntary March 1935 saw Britain s road speed limits reduced to 30mph in built up areas and in April the first cat s eyes appeared on our roads Finally on the 1st of June 1935 the driving test became compulsory for all new drivers Sixty one years later in 1996 the theory test was introduced Has the driving test continued throughout the years Not quite it s been suspended three times since 1935 once during World War II then throughout The Suez Canal Crisis and today during the Coronavirus Pandemic If we look at our current road safety measures we have speed cameras speed limits cat s eyes speed awareness courses neighbourhood watch speed cameras safer cars with cruise control satellite navigation with voice alerts a variety of road signs the theory test and a practical test Are our roads safer today I would like to think so Jody Woodbridge
